Outstanding in the Field
Mark your calendars for a very special farm-to-fork gathering in collaboration with our friends from Outstanding in the Field, an organization partnering with farmers and chefs worldwide to create immersive dining experiences that honor land, food and community - values aligning seamlessly with our own commitments - and enjoy an unforgettable afternoon at Robert Sinskey Vineyards & Wilding Farm.
A note from the Outstanding in the Field Team: We love returning to this corner of the beautiful Napa Valley—not only for Rob Sinskey’s extraordinary wines, but for his warm and welcoming presence. Our first visit with Robert Sinskey in 2013 was at the original Carneros property. This year, we return to Carneros and the new Sinskey headquarters: an 84-acre integrated farm and vineyard called Wilding Farm. As Rob says, “It reminds me of the old Napa, the one I moved to in the mid-’80s, with a mix of vineyards, farms, orchards, and cattle.” Add goats and sheep, and you’ve got Wilding Farm. We can’t wait to explore it.
Chefs from San Francisco’s A16 have collaborated with Outstanding in the Field many times over the years. Last summer, the restaurant opened a Napa outpost, blending the soul of Southern Italy with the bounty of Northern California wine country. Chef Valentin, who trained under Thomas Keller at Bouchon and La Calenda, stepped away from his wildly popular food truck, Mercadito, to helm the A16 Napa kitchen. Longtime A16 Executive Chef Yosuke Machida and Pastry Chef Charlie Guyard will cross the Golden Gate to partner with Valentin for this event. A16 kitchens are known for live-fire cooking, seasonal ingredients, and a deep respect for craft—a perfect complement to Wilding Farm’s bounty.

Festa del Papà
In Italy, 𝐙𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐢 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐢𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐞 are prepared in honor of Festa del Papà, celebrated on 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟏𝟗, the feast day of Saint Joseph, when they are sold on the streets and sometimes presented as gifts.
According to tradition, these light fried pastries - topped with pastry cream (crema pasticcera) and finished with a sour cherry (amarena) and powdered sugar - honor the humble, nourishing foods associated with Saint Joseph, the patron saint of fathers and workers.
Throughout southern Italy, bakeries and home bakers prepare zeppole as a sweet gesture of gratitude for all fathers, turning the pastry into both a festive treat and a symbolic offering that celebrates family, generosity, and the quiet dignity embodied by Saint Joseph.
𝐀𝟏𝟔 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨, 𝐎𝐚𝐤𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 and 𝐍𝐚𝐩𝐚 will feature Zeppole di San Giuseppe on Thursday’s menus - and they will be available at 𝐀𝟏𝟔 𝐋𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚 in the Ferry Building all day Thursday.

Bovio (Piemonte) at A16 Napa
Wine Dinner with Elisa Boschiazza of Bovio from Piemonte
Join us for a special evening in Northern Italy’s Piedmont region, as we welcome Elisa Boschiazza, the fourth generation of Cantina Bovio, a family-run winery from La Morra, Piedmont.
Bovio is known for crafting classic, elegant Barolo alongside beautifully expressive wines from Nebbiolo and other native Piedmontese grapes. Their wines balance tradition and approachability, always with food and the table in mind. For this one-night-only experience, our kitchen will prepare a special menu designed to pair seamlessly with Bovio’s wines. Let's bring together Northern Italian flavors, thoughtful pairings, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Bovio’s boutique estate is found at the very heart of the area where Barolo, Italy’s greatest red wine, was born, high along the misty hilltops surrounding the small village of La Morra in the Northwestern region of Piemonte. The vineyards here have been revered for centuries and are comprised of cherry plots with perfect exposure perched high above the Langhe valley. The top crus of Gattera, Arborina, and Rocchettevino are found here along with many other famous names.
Gianfranco Bovio began to look after his father Alessandro’s holdings in the 1970s, renovating the old cellars and dedicating himself to making wines from their 6.5 hectares of estate vineyards. Today Alessandro’s daughter, Alessandra, her husband, Marco Boschiazzo, and daughter, Elisa continue the family tradition with the cooperation of winemaker Matteo Franchi, and Robert Tofan. The operation has expanded some but still remains relatively tiny - a mere 70,000 bottles from eight hectares.
Festa della Donna
Buona Festa della Donna, one of our favorite Italian traditions
For the past 21 years at A16, 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚 has been one of our most cherished celebrations of wine and food produced and crafted by women.
In Italy International Women‘s Day literally paints the country yellow, celebrating women with the iconic ritual of gifting bright yellow mimosa flowers - symbolizing strength and solidarity - and friends gathering for joyful nights out together. Yet beyond the tradition, it’s really a moment to pause and honor the women who shape our lives in so many different ways.
It’s a celebration of mothers, daughters, sisters, mentors, colleagues, and friends, from every walk of life, who inspire us through their generosity, creativity, and resilience. It’s also a moment to remember the women who sacrificed and worked tirelessly so that future generations could have greater opportunities - through love, hard work, and community, they helped build the paths we walk today.
At A16, we celebrate the way we know best, around the table. Throughout the evening, we’ll be pouring wines entirely made by inspiring women winemakers whose stories and bottles we love to share - from California and Italy.
In the kitchen and on the table, we’re also honoring incredible women producers like Audrey Hitchcock of Ramini Mozzarella, whose buffalo graze on the beautiful spring grasses of Sonoma, producing the milk for her extraordinary mozzarella. At A16 San Francisco we will serve it alongside expertly carved Jamón Iberico from the country's only female La Cortadera, Jen Herman.
And women owned Caviar Co. is collaborating with us to raffle a tin of their caviar for the festivities: make a reservation at A16 San Francisco, Rockridge or Napa for Sunday - and you’ll be automatically entered to win a 125g tin of K to enjoy at a date of your choosing.
However you celebrate, we’re grateful to raise a glass together on Sunday ~ to the women who inspire us, support us, challenge us, and make our communities stronger every day!
Auguri a tutte le donne 💛
